Postal and proxy Voting
You may not be able to go and vote in person on
polling day on 6th May.
Instead you can request a postal vote or a proxy
vote, which means that you can still cast your vote, without needing physically
to go into a polling station to do so.
Electoral register
You must be on the electoral register in order to
vote. The deadline for registering to vote for this year's elections is
Tuesday 20th April 2010 for a 6th May election. So if you have not already registered to vote in South
Gloucestershire, you will not be able to vote here this time round.
If you are unsure whether you are on the electoral
register, you can check by calling the
Electoral Registration Officer
on South Gloucestershire Council on 01454
863030 or emailing
electoral.services@southglos.gov.uk.
Postal vote
If you want to be able to vote by post, you have
to fill in a form and return it to South Gloucestershire Council.
The easiest way to do this is to phone the Council
on
01454 863030
and ask them to send you a form in the
post, which you then need to fill in and return to them.
Alternatively, you can
to download a postal vote application form, which you have to print, sign and send off by post to:
Electoral Services
Council Offices
Castle Street
Thornbury
South Glos, BS35 1HF
Any change to existing postal voting
arrangements must be made by Tuesday 20th April at the latest. After that
deadline existing applications cannot be changed.
The deadline for the receipt of new postal vote applications for the General
Election is TUESDAY 20th APRIL.
Proxy vote
You
can also apply for someone else to vote
on your behalf, either by post or in person. Contact the Council on
01454 863030
to request a form, or
download a form here.
The
deadline to request a proxy vote for the General Election is TUESDAY
27th APRIL.
